Not So Common Scents

“A good fragrance is really a powerful cocktail of memories and emotion.”
― Jeffrey Stepakoff, The Orchard

I’ve had a handful of fragrances that I kept going back to over the years but I’ve recently fallen in love with what I feel is going be my “Signature Scent.” Last year, Louis Vuitton launched their collection of seven fragrances, and I was anxious to see how the scents were. I found myself wandering into their store the week before Christmas, and started perusing the perfume section with curiosity.

The saleswoman asked what types of fragrances I typically find myself drawn to. I normally go for smoky, woodsy, sandalwood, jasmine type of scents… nothing too floral or citrus based. The Louis Vuitton collection offers seven different scents and the salesperson directed me towards “Matière Noire” or Dark Matter. Per Louis Vuitton, Matière Noire is a blend of dark wood and white flowers that ventures into a world of mystery. Matière Noire plumbs intangible depths with a journey through the darkest, most precious woods, namely patchouli and agarwood. The agarwood’s animal notes are intensified by blackcurrant and contrasted with the whiteness of narcissus and jasmine, a floral vibration that cuts the darkness like a comet.

It smelled absolutely unbelievable, and she proceeded to explain to me how and where in France it was made, and how the floral notes would interact with my skin. Each bottle is available in 3.4 and 6.8 ounces and can be engraved with your initials or special date (like a wedding or birthday), included in your purchase price.

They also offer travel cases in a variety of colors and their signature LV monogram pattern. After smelling a few of their other scents, I was given a small bottle sample of the Matière Noire to wear for the next week or so to see how my skin reacts to the scent. I must say, since Christmas I’ve gotten numerous compliments from family, friends and co-workers and I will definitely be wearing this sexy scent on New Year’s Eve! It truly is remarkable and you can always tell a well-made perfume from a less pricey version. You really do get what you pay for in this case. Have you tried any of the Louis Vuitton perfumes?!

Wishing all my friends and followers a safe New Year’s Eve and a 2018 that brings health, happiness and joy!
