It seems everyone is making a new and improved setting powder these days. Every brand claims to have the brightest, lightest and most long-wearing formula out there. I decided to try a few of the new ones myself for Spring to see what the rave was all about.
I always love mixing drugstore products with high-end items, and let’s be honest…as of late the drugstore brands have really upped their game when it comes to their new collections. I always gravitate towards L’Oreal, NYX, Maybelline and e.l.f. when it comes to the CVS/Walgreen’s type of makeup, and lately I’ve tried and absolutely loved some of the new powders below. So let’s dig into the drugstore brands first!
This e.l.f skin refining high definition powder is completely insane for a $6 price point. It is finely milled, goes on very soft and sheer yet somehow make your face feel like velvet. It comes in 3 colours and I bought the middle tone (soft luminance) which looks pinky in the photo but it goes on smooth and translucent. Highly recommended for $6 each! I actually just bought another one b/c I went through my first jar so quickly!
The Maybelline Fit Me! loose finishing powder ($8) was okay…I wasn’t overly impressed with the consistency. It wasn’t terrible, but it just didn’t feel as soft or as silky as the e.l.f. one.
The NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop setting powder ($12) comes in 6 shades and sort of reminds me of Coty Airpun powder, with less of a scent. I urchased the light/medium, and while I liked the coverage better than the Maybelline one, but by lunchtime, my makeup didn’t look as good as it did at 7:00 a.m. & it felt a tad chalky if I’m being totally honest. Hands down, the e.l.f one wins this round! Now don’t tell anyone because with my luck, it will be discontinued by 2020, haha!
Tomorrow it is onto the “glamorous, high-end, how much did this really cost” setting powders! ~xo, J~
