My favorite online digital magazine, BOE Magazine, recently featured my article on one of my top restaurants in Miami!
Since its inception in 2010, Sugarcane Raw Bar Grill has become a Miami staple for locals, and a must have for tourists. Located in the trendy area of Midtown Miami, Sugarcane offers more than 4,000 sq. ft. of indoor and outdoor dining space, designed by award-winning interior design firm, Cetra Ruddy. Inspired by both South American & International Culture, Sugarcane offers something that most restaurants don’t – 3 different kitchens! Between the robata grill, the hot bar and the raw bar, you can spend hours deciding what to order. One of the greatest things is that you don’t have to choose – items come out tapas style and are meant for sharing. So go ahead, order the Duck & Waffles, Bacon Wrapped Dates (left) and the Torrejas below (Cuban French toast with warm syrup and hand churned vanilla cream). There is even a grilled octopus on the menu for those who like to try something a little exotic.
Executive Chef Timon Balloo, of Chinese and Trinidadian descent, is no stranger to the kitchen. With numerous awards including The Miami Herald nod for “Best New Restaurant” and “Best Up-and-Coming Chef” from Miami New Times to being a finalist as the prestigious James Beard Foundation award for “Best New Restaurant”, Balloo bring years of culinary experiences to Miami.
Sugarcane is also known for their unique vegetable and garden infused beverages. Their Garden Essence cocktail (below) features house grown basil, fresh thyme, lemon pepper essence and Death’s Door Organic Gin. The Beet Mojito is also a favorite among the Sunday Brunch crowd, and don’t leave without sampling the Spice of Love cocktail, a concoction of jalapeño, passion fruit purée, mango essence and vodka.
Another great feature of Sugarcane is the stunning versatile ambiance, perfect for a power lunch, a romantic dinner for two or Sunday brunch with the girls. The restaurant takes pride in serving their culinary masterpieces on handcrafted Earthborn pottery and tableware. Each unique item is handcrafted from the artist’s home studio in Alabama which gives each dish its own little piece of art to rest upon. www.earthbornpottery.net
Next time you visit Miami, make a reservation at Sugarcane, sit back, relax, and prepare for your taste buds to thank you – you will find yourself spending quite some time there. You can also connect with Sugarcane on Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest and Twitter to see the latest specials and culinary masterpieces. www.sugarcanerawbargrill.com
